For some of you, I may be the only drummer in your feed. If you are familiar with Rush, you may have heard the news that they are headed out on tour for the first time since the passing of Neil Peart, who is on the Mount Rushmore of drumming. Big shoes to fill. They announced they’ll be touring with Anika Nilles, and you may be wondering—can anyone sit in Neil’s chair? Of course Neil is a singular figure in the drumming world, but Anika has that rare combination of crazy odd-time chops plus musical groove. I’m not a huge Rush fan myself—but I have followed Anika’s work for a while—and I look forward to seeing the first clips of her on stage. She is crazy good, and if you’re a Rush fan, you should look forward to this.
