The things that kill me are Apple’s self-inflicted wounds. I think the EU has some things right, but are also is doing some stupid things. I think that Apple deserves to benefit from creating a platform that allows us to carry our worlds around in our pocket, reasonably. So why is Apple unreasonable in some areas, and perfectly reasonable in others? Is it particular people in Apple making these different judgements? Are the “requirements to serve the shareholders” driving this? More and more, when we find people or organizations doing stupid things, I find it’s a case of misalignment of incentives.
If none of this makes sense, then read Patreon’s explanation of what is happening with their iOS app, and how it affect their users, who are generally small-time indie creators, artists, etc.. In other words… Apple’s core demographic.
